The page keeps a request open that the server answers as soon as the score changes. The number of simultaneous live connections per website is limited, currently to 6; when all of them are in use, the display updates about every 10 seconds as before and then tries again. Management links still reload about every 15 seconds, and viewers never get editing rights.

If the connection drops, the display shows “Reconnecting …”, reconnects automatically and then loads the current state; while updates are flowing it shows “Live”. Without internet there is no transfer through the server. A local score keeps counting on a page that is already open, and its display view in a second window of the same browser updates offline as well. On another device this only works with an online score counter.

The display view shows team names and points large and easy to read, adapts the layout to the number of teams and briefly highlights each change. You switch between light and dark mode, and the browser on that device remembers your choice. Full screen and “Keep screen on” are available where the browser supports them – iPhones often do not offer full screen. The control bar hides after a short time and reappears when you move. There is a separate tournament mode for this. You add 3 to 16 participants; the order of the list is the seeding, and TeamCounter can shuffle it at random if you like. The bracket has 4, 8 or 16 slots, whichever is the smallest size that fits; empty slots become byes for the top seeds. You can rename, move and remove participants. If the order or the field changes after results have been entered, this only happens after a confirmation that resets the results.

You enter the points for each match; the higher score wins, and after a tie you choose the winner yourself. Winners move on to the next round automatically, the rounds are named up to the final, and the champion is highlighted. If a correction changes the winner of a match whose later matches already have results, TeamCounter lists those matches and only resets them after you confirm; without confirmation nothing changes. A history shows entered and changed results.

You set a price per entry for each row. When the counter of that row goes up, the row total follows. The overall total is the sum of all row totals.
