Lost list or management link: what is technically possible?

TeamCounter works without a user account. That protects you from unnecessary registration, but it also means the management link is the access to editing a list. A view link cannot replace it and, for security reasons, cannot simply be converted into a management link.

Decision aid: what exactly is missing?

Finding a list without increasing access rights
SituationNext stepLimit
Online list readable, editing missingLook for the management link in bookmarks, My lists and private messagesA view link cannot grant write access
Online link completely lostCheck the original browser and authorised collaboratorsNo account-based recovery
Local list invisible in another browserReturn to the original device and browser profileNo cross-device local overview
Original browser site data deletedCheck your own existing exportsNo server copy of local browser lists

Do not clear, reset or uninstall the original browser while searching. My lists can contain locally saved online links and local browser lists. Switching a browser or device does not automatically delete the original data.

First distinguish: list or management access

If the list can still be opened through a view or display link, the data has not disappeared; only editing access is missing. If no read-only link exists either, check the “My lists” area on the devices used so far, your browser bookmarks, private message histories and your own secure notes.

For online lists, “My lists” stores local references on that device. Removing an entry there does not delete the server list, and another device does not automatically hold this local overview.

A safe search in five steps

  1. Open “My lists” on the device originally used.
  2. Check your own bookmarks and browser history without sharing links publicly.
  3. Search private messages in which the link was deliberately sent.
  4. Ask other authorised people whether they stored the management link safely.
  5. When contacting support, first mention only the tool type, the list ID or the view link.

Never send an existing management link by email without being asked. It allows changes and should be treated like a private key.

What TeamCounter cannot restore automatically

Without a user account there is no account-based password reset. The view link does not contain the secret management key. TeamCounter should not derive or disclose that key from a public or read-only URL.

A support request therefore cannot guarantee that editing access is restored. Depending on the case, only a technical assignment, a deletion request or the creation of a new list may be possible.

Example: view link available, editing not possible

A group still has the view link for its drink list, but nobody can find the management link. They secure the readable state, check the private devices of the person originally responsible and, if the search fails, create a new drink list. The old view link is not posted publicly.

For a justified deletion request, the tool type, the ID or the view link is sent to the contact page first. Further details should only be provided after a specific follow-up question.

Prevention and limits

Save the management link in a protected bookmark or password manager right after creating the list, and decide which second authorised person has access in an emergency. For pure information, share the view link only. A local export file secures content but does not replace editing access and does not update itself.

More on link types is in the guide to sharing links safely; notes on using several devices are in the device guide.
