Guide and practical tips

Everything important at a glance

Clearly structured, easy to understand and tailored to this TeamCounter tool.

Overview

Online point counter for teams and games

Use the online point counter as a score counter for game nights, training sessions and small competitions. Add teams or players, update points together, mark a winner and share a clean display view.

Examples

For games, training and team challenges

Use the score counter for club training, game nights, small tournaments, workshops or office challenges. The display view works well on a monitor, tablet or projector.

If several people should follow or update the score, the guide Share a tally list explains which link to give to whom.

Hosting a quiz with several teams? Follow our quiz night scoring guide for a round-by-round example, a free score sheet and clear tie-break rules.

Points

Count points, keep a running tally and mark the winner

Counting points works the same way for two teams or a whole group of players: add each team or player once, set an increment such as +1, +5 or +10 and update scores by click. In the example above, Team Blue leads with 12 points, Team Orange is behind by 3 and Team Green by 5, for a running tally of 28 points. If you tap the wrong button, the minus control undoes a single step. The score counter keeps each team's tally until you reset the game, so you can mark a winner when the game is finished and export the final scores as CSV.

Sharing

View link, management link and display view

The view link is read-only. The management link allows updates and should only be shared with people who may change scores. The display view is meant for monitors, meetings and projectors.

The view link and the display view need an internet connection and pick up saved points without reloading, usually within about a second. When the currently 6 simultaneous live connections of the website are in use, the display updates about every 10 seconds; the management link still reloads about every 15 seconds.

For setup instructions, see the guide: Show the score on a second screen.

Usefulness

Online scoreboard instead of a whiteboard

An online score counter is useful when several people update points from different devices or when the current score should stay visible on a screen. TeamCounter is lighter than tournament software and works well for small competitions, training games and private rounds.

If you keep score regularly on the sideline, you can run the same counter in the TeamCounter Android app; the web version stays usable without installing anything.

Display

Present in light, dark or full screen

The display view shows team names and points large, adapts the layout to the number of teams and briefly highlights every change. You switch between light and dark, start full screen and keep the screen on where the browser supports it.

A local score opens its display view in a new tab or window of the same browser, for example for a projector connected to the same computer, and updates there even without internet.

Several games

When several matches should produce one winner

The score counter keeps free-form scores without a fixed schedule. If several matches should produce one winner, use the separate knockout tournament with a bracket: 3 to 16 participants, byes when the field is not full, and the winner moves on automatically after every result. The view link and display view are available there too.

Q&A

Questions and answers

Can I count several teams?

Yes, add multiple teams or players and update their scores online.

Can I change point increments?

Yes, you can set custom increments such as +1, +5 or +10.

Can I share the score?

Yes, every score counter includes a view link and a management link.

Can I show the score on a screen?

Yes, use the display view for monitors, tablets or projectors.

Can I reset a game?

Yes, the management link allows you to reset scores and remove the winner.

Can I export scores?

Yes, export CSV data or print the view as PDF.

What happens if I tap the wrong score button?

Use the minus control to undo a single step without resetting the whole game or recreating the list.

Is the score counter a complete tournament system?

No, it counts and displays the current score. Group stages, fixtures, standings and an audit-proof tournament log are not part of it. For knockout tournaments with up to 16 participants there is a separate tournament mode with a bracket, online and offline.

Is there an analysis of the game?

Yes, on desktop the score counter shows each team's points over time, the lead and the number of lead changes. On smartphones, the analysis is available in the TeamCounter app.

What happens if the connection drops?

The display shows “Reconnecting …”, reconnects by itself and then fetches the current state. Without internet a local score keeps counting in the same browser; the view link and display view of an online score counter need a connection.

Is there a dark mode and full screen for the display view?

Yes, the display view switches between light and dark, and the browser remembers your choice. Full screen and “Keep screen on” are available where the browser supports them. The keys F and T toggle full screen and light or dark.
